Thank you! Amen, Arthur! Mulgrew and Garrido have been doing everything in their power to kill our retiree bills and trying to boycott the very mention of them. You've been reporting untiringly about our retiree concerns and, many months ago you wrote that important resolution for 1096, yet these slick operators only want to endorse candidates who agree not to pass 1096 and any of its comparable state bills.

It's a huge relief that retirees are not being forced into Medicare Advantage at this time. But, like you said, without passing bill 1096, current municipal retirees will be at the mercy of these awful union bosses who intend to use our earned benefits, whether we get forced into a Medicare Advantage plan or not, to fund their tradeoffs and faux savings through never-ending co-pays, deductibles and whatever 'innovative' measures they come up with.

Thanks Laura. I couldn't agree more.

I sent in a question and he dared to say there were no more questions. All his questions were probably as fake as a 3 dollar bill. Afterward, even though it was futile, I sent my question to his personal email. This last minute town hall was planned so that few RTC people would attend. His email ended up in my Promotions folder and I found it by accident along with the DA invite. Only a miniscle amount of my liaison group can go. It will mostly be Unity sychophants that will do hid biddeng

Many sent questions that were ignored. I'm getting email about it. He had a message and put it out. He also did a session for in-service that was almost identical. No idea why he felt the need to do two.

Arthur this is wonderful and so on point! No mention of 1096 today or where the candidates stand on this bill which will protect retiree healthcare for all NYC municipal employees!

Everything you right about our Union Leaders is tainted. You have closed your mind to the words spoken and focus on what YOU think should be said and followed.

You try to make a great Union something negative. Perhaps you will finally see through your one way mirror and realize how the Union has always followed through with a commitment for the members in service and retired.

All our Union Presidents have succeeded in keeping the UFT number one for 60 years. That is something our members should understand. We have grown in numbers. More importantly is we have grown with contracts that have given the member’s financial security, medical care, parental time off, paid sick days, and a guarantee we won’t stop until our PARAPROFESSIONALS get the financial bump. The President also made sure we all know tier 6 must go.

I know those words spoken today speak the truth. I also know this RETIREE will be supporting our President and our elected officers as much as I can.

If you care for something you want it to be better, not just praise it. I am a dependent of a UFT retiree and an active member of the UAW and I can sing that union's praises too - but that praise is deserved. The UAW got me and my coworkers over a 200%, that's two hundred percent, raise in their first year. It never got us sub-inflationary raises paid out of the pockets of retirees. And then there are all the lies Mulgrew told that turns any decent human being's stomach. The UFT is a mighty union just like the U.S.A. is still a mighty country, but right now both are being run by someone very small-minded. You might want to consider whether you are a victim of Stockholm Syndrome.

I asked 6 questions none of which were asked.

I can't say I'm surprised. And I'd bet my bottom dollar there were many about 1096, all of which were studiously ignored. I'm getting messages that many retirees also had messages that were ignored.

Why am I paying union dues as a retiree to a bureaucratic nightmare which has the maturity of someone in the terrible 2’s

Arthur Goldstein's avatar

I can only speak for myself. I'm paying union dues because I want to have a voice in my union. I have thousands of readers and if I weren't part of the union I'd have no right to complain about it, let alone vote or run for office. As for the other part of your comment, I couldn't agree more. It's pretty disgusting to watch a supposed leader shirk responsibility like this. I expect more of the same tomorrow, as he pins it on the DA.

You didn't address that he spoke with Zohran Mamdani and asked him to say publicly he condemns antisemitism and he did and he is satisfied with his answers and how if elected mayor he will deal with this issue.

Arthur Goldstein's avatar

I've addressed my views on his so-called antisemitism before. I did not get the impression that Mulgrew was satisfied, dissatisfied or otherwise with his answers, but correct me if I'm wrong.

They said they had no more questions:-))
