Mulgrew told Sarah Shapiro that he’d shut her microphone off. That didn’t sit well with many in the room. . He lied about 1096 as he usually does. He said he would sue if it was brought up again. Retiree health care is not collectively bargained. It can be improved by the MLC, but not diminished. 1096 ( and the next bill whatever it’s # will be) will insure retiree health care is not diminished and the copays would stop. There was a resolution to stop the copays that we never got to, as well as a few other resolutions. I also agreed with Jonathan that the C30 process should be decided by the committee and voted no as it was not amended to reflect this.
I could not believe the stuff that came out of his mouth. I mean, of course I literally didn't believe it, but I was also shocked he mustered the gall to say much of what he did.
That's the Unity pull. Why do people support Unity & Mulgrew cause they enjoy the Unity ride and will do most anything (like sell out retirees) to stay OUT OF THE CLASSROOM. Sad, for a union of teachers. :(
It's important that you showed the similarity between the C-30 process and our own union's political process of endorsing candidates. It is literally the same structure. The structures that this union's leadership criticizes the DOE for (but is not successful solving) are the same for the UFT. This union's leadership is saturated in hypocrisy at all times. Mulgrew tried to make a joke at the February DA when he asked how it was going for chapter leader's whose principals were former chapter leaders. If this President had an ounce of leadership qualities, he would encourage current chapter leaders to use that as a bridge instead of this fake us against them narrative. The man literally takes for the DOE playbook Every. Day. Of. The. Week.
I think it is, in fact, worse than the C-30 process. In a C-30, we write our own questions. My understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that UFT simply hands you the questions and the committee has no input whatsoever.
I don't understand, Arthur. How is it that we voted, and it wasn't even close, for our independence from Unity and yet here we are. What does Bennett Fisher do? Does he stand up to Mulgrew or is he just a wolf in sheep's clothing? Is it possible to sever our ties with UFT and be completely independent? Is that too extreme? I really abhor the lies and misrepresentation and feel bad for the fools who stand by him. They are so misguided. And... either dumb or they are getting something out of this.
Al Shanker: Where are you when we craved for a true, principled and honest leader who told the truth and fought the evil naysayers against the membership.🙏.
There's a book called The Teacher Rebellion by David Selden that paints another side of Shanker. He was certainly a cut above Michael Mulgrew, but also created the caucus and system that caused the mess we're in.

I agree and he was controlling the whole situation….no dialogues, no rebuttal, no follow-up questions. The Oz has spoken.
The Great and Powerful. And anyone who wants to keep their cool gigs and free trips had better agree.

Sadder still is they are the only source of information many of us even get to see.

It’s actually even more diabolical than that.
Do tell. Or write up a whole column. Inquiring minds want to know. I can help, if you like.

I can't speak for Bennett Fischer,. You'd have to ask him.

I haven’t read it; however, thank you for making this examination of Albert Shanker. I will get to the library and borrow it.
If you can't find it, and I couldn't, you may find a cheap used copy at Amazon, which I did.
