Thanks for your kind words Colleen. We're not precisely in the darkness, but let's keep turning those lights on Unity. They aren't used to it at all.

Thank you Arthur for speaking for all of us in RTC. I’m not on FACEBOOk, but the UFT.org retiree site also does not have photos of the current leadership or members. ( their names are listed).

My question is did Bennett or Gloria or Jonathan get the RTC email list so they can send out notices about upcoming RTC meetings?

We don't have the RTC mail list. We submit things that are subject to editing and/ or approval. What you read here is uncensored and heartily unapproved by the bosses.

Just adding to what our dear Patricia reports about what can be seen in our Retiree Teachers Chapter page within UFT's official website. Because of the hit and miss ways I've either received or not received UFT emails (another questionable situation), I've relied on our official Retiree Chapter webpage for RTC meeting dates - which for years would all be listed in advance as early as late August. Suddenly after the defeat of Unity, this is no longer the case. We're approaching October and our Retiree Teacher Chapter webpage only lists "Nov 3, Teacher Union Day" (scroll down to "Upcoming Events": https://www.uft.org/chapters/retired-teachers-chapter). Seems what's going on in our ***OFFICIAL*** UFT webpage not only reflects photos of just Unity people but how Mulgrew and his Unity loyalists are doing their best to divert, interfere and, at worst, dictate their censorship on critical platforms not theirs to control.

The fundamental issue is they cannot be trusted. I could assume good intentions in a lot of people, but not these people. They don't care about anything except preserving their power. It's remarkable that after having sold us out, after having lost the election, Mulgrew pretends to support us in such obviously phony ways, does nothing, and they can't understand why none of us can believe them.

Misrepresenting the Face Book site is a consistent pattern with misrepresenting Medicare Advantage, misrepresenting the Welfare Fund, misrepresenting the CBA in 2018, etc, etc, etc.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

UFT membership, please don’t be fooled again at the next election.

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.

Great post, thank you for all the details. What I wanted to add here is the gut punch I felt when I lost one of my best buddy teacher-soulmates after he accepted a Unity job. I knew he did it for the money, and I guess partially for a more far-reaching career than a public school classroom, but his ethics became a real stumbling block for me. I didn’t enjoy that loss at all. Parenthetically, I also loved your take on classroom teaching: “You have to be mentally and physically agile to deal with the crippling chaos that’s always just one bad decision away.” Perfect description. And now that I think of it, maybe that’s the real reason why my friend took the Unity job.

Thanks for your kind words. I hung out with Unity for a few years. I wasn't in the caucus, but thought I'd be able to change things. I went to meetings, people told me how wonderful my ideas were, and no one followed up on anything, ever. The health care thing, as I learned more about it, turned me back. There was just no way MA could compare to traditional Medicare AND THE SUPPLEMENT! (You see, I'm listening to you.)

I was not only teaching, but also leading a huge chapter. I was really in the moment back then, and I loved it. Teaching online kind of killed my spirit and my interests turned to hobbies. I really hated just sitting there, looking at the cat pictures, while the kids were sleeping, watching videos, walking in the park, or whatever. I wanted to walk in the park too.

I guess it was good for the small percentage of kids who focused. They got an awful lot of my attention. But it seemed so wasteful for the rest. I lowered my standards more than ever, and still failed more students than ever before. It was depressing. I stepped down as CL, but held on as a teacher for another two years.

Sorry for all the autobiography. You have me reflecting somehow.

So retirees are untrustworthy in Unity leaders eyes. How anti union! Thank you Arthur for writing this substack and telling the truth.

Thanks for your kind words. I don't see it as retirees being unworthy. I see it as NON-UNITY retirees, NON-UNITY OT/PT, NON-UNITY paras, and NON-UNITY anyone else being unworthy. Mulgrew is the golden calf, and anyone unwilling to worship and pay tribute gets no voice in the union. They are, however, allowed to pay dues, and the salaries of all the Great Minds who rationalize cutting our health care, issuing sub-inflationary contracts, and communicating only things the Great Leader sees fit.

Great column. All this makes my blood boil. Pulice's and Unity's audacity know no bounds. As expected, my Messenger text to Pulice has no response. A normal person would respond, but I guess her patronage salary is more important.

Thanks Arthur. It's really not about Pulice. It's about what Unity lets her get away with, and likely encourages her to do. If they were to tell her to stop, that would be the final word. This is what Unity wants. They have no intention of cooperating with us, ever. We all know how election deniers can be.
