All I can do is give another story from my career. In 1985 I was assigned to a school that never had a male teacher. Thus, no bathroom for me. The principal refused to create one unisex bathroom. Sandy Feldman herself with a little UFT entourage came herself to the school with the District Superintendent to go to bat for me. To this day, I will never forget how wonderful she was. The principal was intransigent and was forced to allow me to use her bathroom. A week later the school had its first unisex bathroom. I did not not realize that was a different union which cared about a lowly teacher like me.

That's a great story--turning the unreasonable to the reasonable, and by force. We can do that with our ballots.

Another great piece, Arthur. Thanks!

I’m a relatively new retiree. Do retirees get to vote on UFT elections? If so, when is that coming? Can’t wait to cast my vote against Mulgrew.

Retirees get to vote in UFT elections, though their votes are weighted somewhat less than active members. Retirees will vote on retiree representation in the Spring. I will be running in some capacity with Retiree Advocate, and I urge you to vote for us, and get everyone you know to do the same.

Retirees do not, however, get to vote on contractual issues. That's why Mulgrew , Murphy, UFT Unity, and the MLC are morally bankrupt when they disrupt our health care.
