At the very least, the Retiree Advocate slate must be voted in and replace the Unity slate which is actively advocating against Medicare for its members!

That would be a major blow to Supreme Leader Mulgrew.

Sure, maybe unity will lose the first time, but what about the redo election they’ll hold after???

Like they did to the chapter that voted down the contract, or when they lost the HS VP. They then changed the rules so it couldn't happen again. Despots hate democracy.

And no matter how hard we try to convince people it's important to vote and to vote Mulscrew out, he still manages to get reelected.

Far fewer voted for him last time, and far more will be angry next time. The challenge is getting people off their asses to vote even if they DON'T hold patronage gigs.

Attacks feel personal. We served with honor. When our contract obligations are fulfilled and we transition to limited income realities we feel betrayed. Our retirement dreams are built on promised contractual benefits, offered as incentives and benefits of service as NYC Professional Public employees. We paid for our benefits with salary schedules negotiated lower for these healthcare benefit over multiyear contracts while working as active employees).

We have been feeling betrayed cruelly for the last two years since actions of unions and NYC elected officials to force retirees into Medicare Advantage Plans (MAPs, aka Medicare Disadvantage Plans) without choice. Big commissions and financial incentives structured throughout negotiations that included no representatives of the NYC Public Service Retirees, we have no union membership.

We believed in the honor of NYC, Mayor, Council Members, Municipal Committee on Civil Service and Labor, the unions we long were members of and fulfilled service roles in, so the feel of the door hitting us as we exit from active employment is blow when we were expecting earned honor and respect. We’re elderly, sometimes disabled, more likely to fall from the blow, we’re not Tiny Tim though Scrooge’s presence is felt.

We retirees on limited incomes have been fighting the attack on our healthcare benefits in court with only our own funds to rely on, and we are not going anywhere. Quit wasting time, energy and public tax dollars on vicious attacks on to harm NYC’s honorable Public Service Retirees.

We need a hearing of Intro 1099 in the Committee on Civil Service and Labor. Do NYC Council Members believe in honor and service, integrity of New York City’s promises and contracts? Approve hearing Intro 1099.

Wishes for the spirit of the season to warm hearts and bring people of goodwill together in the fast approaching New Year.

Preserving and enhancing the health benefits for both active employees and retirees is the issue of our day. The MLC needs new leadership. We need to proactively force the issue as Marianne (my hero) has done.

Couldn’t agree more. As retirees, we are not fooled by Mulgrew, hence in court against his pathetic, destructive leadership. Wow, I could use two pensions!

Evidently it pays to stab the people who pay your salary in the back. Who'd have thunk it?
