Your dues are going to a junket for Randi Weingarten to hob nob with the political and financial elites in Davos Wouldn’t her time be better spent in New York City or Albany to preserve health care benefits for retirees and in-service members?
Randi won't take a stand against Mulgrew, ever. He'd have to blink first, and he's busy pretending to be on our side, even as he's part of an amicus brief against us.
Btw, when Randi was in Texas for that AFL-CIO conference and posted that Tom Murphy was the Retiree Chapter Leader, I emailed her and posted on her FB page to ask why, because he was overwhelmingly voted out, and she never responded.
They also credited him for being CL on that calendar they sent us. They seem to just assume their people will never lose elections, no matter what atrocious things they do. They're in for a rude awakening.
Character assasination of Pres Mulgrew may garner hits on your blog but it builds nothing but your own brand. It doesn’t help to bring people together to field a real alternative to the current misleadership. Your tirade against Mulgrew has degenerated into a vanity project.
So calling out what's wrong is now being equated with "character assassination" and a way to "garner hits on one's blog." This is no game Sean. Arthur is showing the many how's and why's we keep getting put harm's way. And when I say harm -- I mean HARM! If it makes some leaders uncomfortable they can take it up with the facts. And let's not underestimate how much Unity lost the race to RTC because of an amazing "outsider" like Marianne and because of Arthur's careful and forthright column. I know hardly anyone who simply doesn't cherish Arthur's analytic pieces; the way he hopes to make things clear. Yes I'll praise him, alright, because he's been writing from the heart, doesn't mince words, and makes tremendous sense. This is rare and should be loved.
Sean, as always, the ad hominem attack, somewhere in your comments. The implication that Arthur’s efforts are self-serving, self-aggrandizing, and have nothing to do with how abusive UNITY has been to both in service members and retirees.
This is a brilliant blog, clever and incisive. Right up until the punchline about voting for ABC- instead of insisting we have a unified opposition slate that will defeat Mulgrew and the Unity/Progressive machine. If we're not united, we'll hand him the leadership for another term. PS - Only dot not connected in this great analysis is the way our union is going along with "reforms" to integrate AI into platforms and software teachers will be forced to use, transforming teaching in ways that are almost imaginable.
As I mentioned in the post, there's the lack of basic democracy, as evidenced by a handful of unelected RA members leaving 288 of us who helped with no vote.
What? So, you tell me, ARISE moved ahead with forming a counter to UNITY without your, and 288 others in RA’s agreement? Did they as individuals or collectively cause this schism? Or was the disagreement personal, i.e, dislike of this or that person, a grab for attention/power?
I am confused. I know Norm Scott. Was he unelected in RA, now pulling for …?
I am saying precisely that. I ran with RA. I worked hard to get RA elected. 300 of us ran with RA.
After we won, a handful of unelected RA members decided to align with MORE. They left 288 of us without a vote. That is a lack of fundamental democracy.
“Advocate for single-payer laws like the New York Health Act to permanently solve our healthcare crisis.”
What are your thoughts related to that goal? I believe Marianne pointed out that this would have the same affect on retirees as Mulgrew’s MA plan. I’m paraphrasing her words. Correct me if I’m wrong.
First, NYHA is not happening any time in the foreseeable future. ABC is neutral on it for now. I, speaking for myself only. see it as something that holds promise, but Marianne is more expert on it than I am. I'd defer to her opinion. Right now we need to focus on beating back the attacks on real Medicare.

I wish the members could authorize a “stop payment” on her pay checks for theft of service.
Well I'm pretty sure this is her final term. I read somewhere that she was stepping down when it finished.
Arthur, if Randi Weingarten really cared about her members she would use her influence with the Democrats in New York to pass the legislation.
Let’s face it, she doesn’t care.
We say, "Don't hold your breath," in English. In Spanish, they say, "Sit while you wait."
I kind of like the Spanish version better. So here's my advice to you, Keith, not that you need it--Sit while you wait for her to do that.

Buhler? Buhler?
This space is for discussion. Let's refrain from name-calling and innuendo, please.

Thanks for your kind words Laura.
Well deserved!

You're free to condone a blatant lack of democracy. I've had decades of it. That's why I stand with ABC.
Why ABC over ARISE? Genuinely curious. Since ARISE has more a more detailed plan, for one, I assumed you would favor them.
Is it individuals? (I assume a fractured opposition will doom a replacement for Unity.)

Arthur, from ARISE’s website.

Dana, its that, along with other issues within ARISE. How would this bullet point from their posted platform affect retirees?

I’m with Arthur in voting for ABC.
