Yep, he still thinks we are stupid. I am working this summer in a CSE. I give everyone my spiel describing what he has done. I would say most are against him now. I tell them our fight is your fight. Words are less than meaningless unlless backed up by action.
Can the RTC leadership write a letter to Weingarten and Mulgrew asking for an in person meeting to discuss the UFT’s actions going forward to protect Medicare and Medicare supplement at no cost including
lobbying for the state and city legislation and filing an amicus brief with the Court of Appeals.
At least the RTC would have a record of their unwillingness to meet and take action.
Love the way you and Marianne keep exposing their words and actions. But quibbling again on a small point, because I think imprecise wording doesn’t do anyone any good. (Norm would disagree: he specifically suggested a couple of years ago to me that specific wording doesn’t count as much as getting people riled up to become active. I think I’m not genetically programmed to do that.) You say “all our careers, we’ve been promised real Medicare” - I don’t remember them ever saying that. What I remember is them saying we’ll cover you from birth to death (birth meaning any of our children, I guess). Even in the final retirement consultation (2011) when the UFT guy was asking me which health care I wanted and I knew nothing about the subject at all, he said: okay you’re in HIP, I guess just stick with that, and mumbled something about a rider being reimbursed. (Riders seem to be reimbursed for any health plan now, but I don’t have a clue what was happening back then.) Fact is, I was 64 and not yet in Medicare, but he didn’t say a word about the best choice for me in the following year. I don’t think that was nefarious on his part: he just didn’t care much what I chose. Back to the point: I don’t believe the UFT ever promised anyone “real Medicare.” How could they: they have nothing to do with “real” Medicare. You get Parts A and B through Soc. Security, the union has nothing to do with that. The unions are only responsible for the vehicle THROUGH WHICH you get your Medicare delivered: straight with a suppl. and separate drug plan, or middleman-managed through an HMO or PPO (with drug component included). Neither of these structures is “real” Medicare. Only thing that’s real about them is Part A and Part B.
Could we all call Randi and Mulgrew's offices to follow up? I mean do this as an action -- all call in over the next weeks as many times as it takes? I know it's tedious but it's an effective disruption of their work days for them to receive tons of calls.

Absolutely. I'm kind of shocked he thinks what he did is enough. If so, yes, he thinks we're stupid.
Nothing like truth well said or written, Mr. Arthur!
P.S.
Thanks for your kind words.

Good idea.
My position on Mulgrew is Never Ever trust that man .
Well, you have ample reason for that. Let's see if he wants to do anything about it.

Good thought. Tough to get through to UFT since Mulgrew improved the phone lines, though.
