Arthur made a great point. If Aetna Medicare Advantage is so much better than traditional Medicare why not give the retirees and their dependents a choice?

Would Mr. Murphy respond? It is a valid question which he can respond to in writing if he is concerned about decorum.

Of course the concern about decorum is a sham. The fact is neither Murphy nor anyone in his caucus can defend their ongoing scam.

Thank you. We Arthurs have to stick together. And we have to tell all our friends to get out and vote too!

"rump retirees"? What's that supposed to mean? That we're sitting around basket weaving? Pretty offensive way to refer to his constituents. His contempt for us is obvious.

I never cared for Tom Murphy. When I retired a few years ago, I wanted to attend the retiree meetings but I drive my disabled daughter to work every day at 1PM which is when the meetings are held. I emailed Murphy and asked if he would consider holding the meetings at different times so everyone could attend. His reply was: "We'll (using the royal "we" I guess) think about it." That was the last I heard from him, and as a result, I have NEVER attended a UFT retiree meeting.

The "official" UFT Facebook page is a joke. The woman who ran it (idk if she still does bc I left that group) was posting pictures of her vacation home in the Poconos. Really, who wants to see that? In my opinion, retirees are concerned mostly about their finances and healthcare. That's what they should be focusing on.

I believe the woman emailed me to let me know that the retiree group was just a place where people could feel good or something. Oddly, if she wanted us to feel good, she'd be fighting like hell to preserve our health care. I'm sure Unity would fire her for that, though.

Great piece! Retirees and active members should not be put against each other or even fight each other. I am not anti union I am pro democracy and I have a sense you are too. Remember they called Thomas Jefferson Radical in those times. He was ahead of his time and still is to some people. Unions are about freedom of expression and freedom. Being able to congregate and discuss all and any issues. Freedom of Assembly and the ability to solve problems collectively.

I am pro-democracy. Last year I was horrified when Mulgrew sent us an email saying we must support changing the law to diminish our rights, or we'd have to pay a premium. He blatantly pitted retired members against rank and file. He made health care a zero-sum game. This is precisely the practice that has prevented Americans from having universal health care.

I was at a DA meeting some twelve(?) years ago and I made a proposal to aid the striking Transit workers " by any means necessary". Randi quickley jumped down fron her podiam-on-high and rammed through a " modified" version of what I had preposed which radically neutered my original intention.

UNITY Caucus is riddled with class traitors, opportunists and careerists.

Murphy is a lap dog and collaborator. He relies on our advanced age to lull us to sleep- and a cheap sentimentalist.

I will never vote for any Unity person!

You know, the thing about relying on our advanced age is something I believe as well. I believe Mulgrew and the MLC assumed we'd all lie down, or better yet, die. I'm very happy to say they sorely miscalculated.
