Remember the teacher who reported that a FIRST GRADE child had brought a gun to class? Her supervisor did NOTHING! She was shot, and was lucky she wanted to killed. Ultimately she sued and won.
Wow. Thank you Arthur. Privacy is a large issue, but the DOE and Unity Leadership's reaction to such a horrifying threat -is just as horrifying. No teacher and their students should be subjected to such threats, not to mention how they've made an example of a Union Rep because he acted so responsibly. Incredible! Like you say, what message does this have on both our teachers and youth? Very well written Arthur!
They care more about perception than reality. So they want schools to be perceived as safe when they might not be - case in point guns in schools. Perhaps we should advocate to have incidents published daily and publicly. And LODI is a way to prevent pedagogues who get hurt from being compensated either in time or in money or in disability benefits. That needs to change as well.
It's a slippery slope about reporting, and there's kind of a pendulum here. Sometimes DOE insists on it, sometimes they suppress it, and there've been times when principals have complied, reporting everything, and it's resulted in school closures. If I recall correctly, that's what happened at Jamaica High School.

I wonder if Adam has a lawsuit. If so, this DOE deserves it.

Thank you Laura.
Teachers need the same protections bus drivers receive. No staff member should fear for their life.
What protections to bus drivers receive? Whatever that may be, if it's worthwhile I'd argue that all staff and students should receive it as well.
