And then folks wonder why we think democracy is so crucial in the labor movement!

Norm Scott posted this today about the big decline in the stock prices for Medicare Advantage providers this week when the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a lower reimbursement rate for MA plans for 2024 than Wall Street analysts had anticipated.

Karma, baby!

In fairness, Mulgrew says his scheme will reimburse doctors at the same rate as Medicare. In further fairness, that could change at any time, and some doctors will just not take MA no matter what.

Why and when were retirees taken out of the UFT prescription drug plan?

Could Mr. Mulgrew or his staff explain.

Check out CSA’s Welfare Fund benefits for in service and retirees! No add on costs like the $10 a month per person the UFT has us paying for SHIP (yeah right, I know it’s a NYSUT plan but NYSUT can confirm that charge is up to the individual local, and who knows maybe local #2 the UFT, is the only one that makes it a prerequisite) and for the privilege of paying for a very diminished catastrophic coverage plan. Now CSA provides a catastrophic with a $1000 deductible at zero cost to all in service and retirees. Far better benefits across the board. How do they do that? Maybe all those patronage jobs are hemorrhaging the UFT’s own Welfare Fund. See for yourself! https://www.unionfacts.com/lu/63924/AFT/2/

And this link will take you to compensation for various Unity Caucus employees who were once full time teachers.

There are different tabs within the first link to explore spending choices of the UFT under Michael Mulgrew

Hopefully you will continue to pull back the curtain. Thank you for digging in, Arthur.

Thanks for your kind words. For the record, Union Facts is an anti-union site. So I've got mixed feelings about using their research, convenient though it may be. I am pro-union. That said, I think Mulgrew and his Unity Caucus haven't got the remotest clue what union is or does.

It may be an anti union site, in this current climate it is useful to obtain as much information as possible on how Mulgrew spends UFT funds. Why does the UFT have 954 employees when the AFT, the umbrella union for all of the locals in the entire country, have 450 employees? Why is Sterling Roberson’s (VP) salary $19,000 less than Susan Pulice, the administrator for the UFT retiree fb page? There is much fascinating and valuable data to gather on this site.

Six or seven years ago, I did a comparison of the salary structure at NYSUT and the UFT and, surprise, found that UFT salaries for comparable jobs were 10-15% higher than at NYSUT.

Well, say what you will about the salaries at UFT, but one thing you must agree on--Whatever They Do there beats working.
