I hope you will stand by OTs, PTs audiologists and nurses now since we were the only ones brave enough to tell Mulgrew and his ilk to stick their lousy contract where the sun doesn’t shine.
With the Supreme Court issuing a preliminary injunction against the Aetna Medicare Advantage plan, how will the MLC (UFT/DC 37) find 600 million dollars to fund the Health Stabilization Fund in addition to the 600 million in “health care savings” in years 2021, 2022 and 2023?
They could consolidate all the city Welfare Funds. Of course that would eliminate a whole lot of patronage gigs, and some UFT Unity stalwarts would have to, you know, work, in, you know, schools. But that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
Thank you Arthur for standing on the right side of this messy nightmare that Mulgrew and his cronies have cooked up for us NYC retirees. And he can do that to the rank and file because- Most of this generation does not know the term activism.
Thanks for your kind words, and I'm very grateful for the retirees who've taken a stand for health care. I think we've been infantilized by this union leadership. Everyone looks to them when we need to help ourselves. I'm not at all sure it's generational. We really need to know and teach more about unionism.
I have fought against unity for many years and when I was injured on the job (by a student), the union did nothing to help me. The medical bureau is a farce and the union rep who was supposed to support me ended up being my worst enemy. She lied about the dr and cost me over 30,000 in back pay. This is how much I am angry about unity.
I hope so but I didn't find them. It was very difficult and my injuries were numerous and it was worse being treated like I didn't count. Especially by our union.

You have more reason than most, I have to say. I hope you do better next round.

I have 2 UFT teacher kids. Retired Mom observations:)
They're lucky to have you, and I'm very glad there are those like you.

I'm very sorry you had to go through that. Despite my misgivings, there are certainly better reps than that.
