I wish the DA was available on a zoom so we can witness the shenanigans, along with the phone voting. Should a resolution be proposed to limit the president’s report to 30 minutes max, and all relevant “information” to be emailed directly to the delegates, prior to the DA????
We’re committed to running a positive campaign, so we’ll limit our comments on the Delegate Assembly yesterday to this: if you don’t approve of the president of our union once again using his report (most of which could be put into an email, leaving more time for Q&A and resolutions) to filibuster, if you don’t approve of him dismissing and mocking a retiree delegate for invoking her right to raise a point of order asking if he’s acting in accordance with the UFT Constitution (he isn’t), don’t get upset — ORGANIZE.
Our slate has working groups meeting in the next week (District 75 on December 17 and High Schools on December 18) and our third Member Assembly on fixing Tier 6 meeting January 7. Our first two meetings were attended by hundreds of working members because we’re running on changing the DOE and the union for the better, not business as usual or more of the same.
This man doesn’t know how to talk to people, particularly women and retirees. And like many of you, we are tired of it. It’s time for new leadership that treats our members with dignity and respect. The UFT election is next May — now is the time to get involved. We need you, so comment below or message us if you’d like to help.
While I respect that, I speak for myself here. I'm afraid I've placed no such limit on my personal comments, and I'll have more to say about it tomorrow.
I'm on the phone, upstate, but I did get a kick out of Lois Weiner's insistence, her talking over Mulgrew! NOT "silly" to challenge him, as he implies.
Arthur I always amazes me how you capture the essence of these meetings.
I wanted to clarify where you had the ?. The teacher was referring to AIS, tutoring small groups using HMH. Thank you again for this detailed report. I agree UNITY wants to look like the heroes around the para issues and healthcare. But we know better.
I think the question mark was because I didn't hear something. And yes, we know better. I'd argue that their expectation otherwise is yet another example of their incredible ageism.

I would vote yes on that!

It was on Zoom up to this year, if I recall...

Thanks for the blow by blow, Arthur!
The RTC meetings are on Zoom. This one was just over the phone. Thanks for your kind words.
