I have been an advocate for the UFT for 23 years. I also became a para rep for the same amount of years. What have I not done for the union. As a unionist I have lobbied, volunteered, supported anything and everything that is how I truly believed and supported the union. So once I ran for the position I won have been treated like cray by Leroy Barr !! I call him Mulgrew’s pit bull. So whatever you need on behalf on shedding the light on the UFT I will be right there on a bottom of dime. Thank you for all you do as well.
Thank you Arthur for connecting all of these dots.
My son’s nurse practitioner who manages his meds just told us on our appointment last night she quit because they slashed her reimbursement, and stated “I don’t understand how the city could have such terrible health care reimbursement for its workers.” After having a serious post-Covid health event, it took Matt two months to find a neurologist that would take our insurance.
When health care reimbursement rates are driven down in the city hospitals, the city then uses the “local market” to say that OTs and PTs don’t deserve pay parity. We are told we should be happy to have lower pay because of our “premium free” health care, but in our family of three with two DOE parents, we are learning it is only “free” it you don’t have to use it.
Thanks for your kind words. Premium free is indeed only the case if you don't use it. And if the exploding co-pays aren't enough to make people think twice, the new program, according to the UFT lawyer, may have a "bit of a premium."
The UAW president said the members sign then contracts not presidents in any capacity. Shawn Fain is l showing us what a true leader is how to stand up to management and Wall Street. When will the UFT and all city unions embrace true democracy. “We the people “ is that concept dead? It is alive but sleeping in a deep slumber from being intimidated for so long and bullied to depression. One day union labor across the city will wake up and realize the labor union is dying slowly but surely. All unions need new leaders with guts I was a UFT delegate, was in Teamsters and now I am in TWU 100 Transit workers and the leadership feels as executives calling the shots and all members have to bow to them or kiss the ring like the”Godfather”. The MLC and their member unions have forgotten why they are there and how they got there and who pays their salaries. Who do they really work for?
The question remains-how to get the rank and file to realize what Mulscrew is doing and that he is NOT working for the members. When he next comes up for election, how do we make the voting members realize why they need to vote and why they then need to vote him out? This remains the biggest issue of all. How do we convince the majority-which dare I say are already apathetic-that they need to stop turning a blind eye to all of this because YES it does effect them whether they know it or whether they care about it because some day they actually will care when they realize it directly effects them or when they need help and it's not there for them. How do we do it????
The overwhelming majority does not even vote. When the new health care plan comes in, they;'re in for a rude awakening. By acting like lunatics over and over, Unity is helping us quite a bit.
You are 100% right!!! I am so glad that you are bringing this to light. Thank you for all you do!

As one of the few people that understand what it feels like to stand in your shoes, please feel free to reach out if you need to commiserate.
Thank you, Migda, for taking on the challenge and standing up for members!
Thank you !
Excellent article, will vote out Mulgrew next chance I get!

Why aren’t we striking over our healthcare?
I know they don't vote. That's the problem. But those same ones who don't vote won't care about the health insurance change either.
I'm not sure about that, but we shall see.
So the question remains how do we get the ones that DO vote to vote him out?
