The UFT has been funding ALL of our raises through give backs commencing during the fiscal crisis of the early 70's. We bailed out the city, diminished NYC'S

pension contributions from 5% to only 2.5% (how did that help your final pensions?), extended top salary steps, lengthened sabatical eligibily from 7 years to 11 and then 14, decreased TDA fixed rate to 7% (only UFT titles), increased classroom time without additional compensation, allowed a seemingly corrupt arbitration process to determine contract disputes and much more!

Time to get rid of Unity!

Wow! This article MUST go viral!! While it's not shocking to know the powers leading the plunder, I'm so grateful for this phenomenal expose, Arthur. These "penthouse dwellers who pose as financial watchdogs" have been buying off 'leaders' and, for the longest time, fooling the public with their double talk. But it's also something to see the President of the Citizens Budget Commission detail their tunnel-visioned list of what they define as "savings" from our healthcare benefits, in that despicable 2014 letter to the former OLR Commissioner, Robert Linn (also copied to the MLC Chair!) Among a few others in the Labor Movement, seems Mulgrew was a knowing, participating traitor, who's now fighting to protect his secrets. TY Arthur -for such a crucial read! People of good conscience and common sense, at the very least let's kick Michael Mulgrew and his lackey, Tom Murphy, out of UFT!

Let’s remember Robert Linn’s cool arrangement for himself, speaking of disgusting greed and lack of integrity. Linn retired as Commissioner of the City of NY Office of Labor Relations. He set it up for the replacement he hired, Renee Campion, to request a waiver to override the required time frame for returning to work for the same entity. Robert Linn was then able to get himself paid $500 an hour consulting for NYC Labor Relations. Google the actions of this slime ball who thinks it’s great to take away the health benefits that we were promised over the decades of our lives that we gave to making NYC function.

Regarding the “cost savings” of forcing retirees into a Medicare Advantage plan,

that reduction in the City’s contribution triggers the “Retiree Health Insurance Moratorium Law” which mandates that school districts (including the New York City School District) make a corresponding reduction for in-service employees. It is one of the counts in the lawsuit filed by the New York City Organization of Public Service Retirees.

Mulgrew put his in-service members’ health care at risk by reducing the City’s contribution and the health care benefits for retirees.

Mulgrew will argue that the law does not apply and that he and the MLC can flout the law (but it will ultimately be decided by the courts).

Quite incredible that a union president will argue against a law that protects his union retirees.

Well, Mulgrew is certainly reducing the cost of in-service plans, and in-service members have yet to rise and object like the retirees have. I'm very sad to say I believe that will happen AFTER the change is instituted. The silver lining will be the end of Mulgrew and his treacherous patronage cult.

You can go to the New York City Organization of Public Service Retirees and enroll as a delegate for Retiree Advocate to defeat the Unity caucus delegates who support forcing retirees into a for-profit Medicare Advantage plan and taking away Medicare and Medicare supplement at no cost.

The last NET raise was Shanker's final contract in 1969. See comments below.

Of course, there’s plenty of Wall St. $$$ to throw some peanuts at a monkey like Mulgrew, as well as as a grifter like Adams. They’re both punks.
