They passed a totally unenforceable reso by the skin of their teeth, in a room they stacked with their own people, including paid staff. That’s not a show of strength — it’s blood in the water.

I also can’t help but wonder what they mean by non-UFT outsiders. Does that include non-UFTer Ellie Engler and her sanctioned interfering in the para chapter? 🤔

I was pretty shocked they did that, and yes, it's unenforceable. I have no idea what they expect to achieve by this--beyond looking like prissy, intolerant, pompous fools.

I was on the phone, had a question about retirees having to go through hoops as if they were first time subs, to sub in NYC system..but I was not called on, due to timed out.

But I felt bad for Peter, but at the same time, I'm glad he expressed his outrage at the red-baiting. Mulgrew surprised me by apologizing to him for "being snarky". An understatement, of course. I did note that the person who raised the reso made sure to call herself DR whatever! from Murrow Hs. To let you know shes highly credentialed, maybe lowering herself to speak to mere mortals without PHd's! Remember the RED colored mailings Unity sent out to oppose oppo candidate many years ago! But I do think with all respect to Peter that this charade was aimed at Marrianne- & those of us who love & champion her- more than anyone, even more than the DSA!

Yes I think so too. She is threatening their much-cherished monopoly. They think they own our union. Let them think that for a few more months, and continue to alienate all of us who pay attention,

Those with education, and even Philosophical, doctorates should never be caller 'doctor'. We've decided as a society that this honorific is reserved for Medical Doctors only.

Oh you did not get that woman’s name either who was a plant. I was exploding when she gave a resolution that was obviously written for her. Well, my message chain to my delegates was hot. I told them they must vote against putting it on next month’s agenda. It only won by a small margin. I told them no matter who they support politically in May, we must all hang together, attend these meetings and vote our interests. I knew Unity would play divide and conquer. I am disgusted. She is no better than a MAGA voting against her real life interests.

Here's the thing--as Steve mentioned above, it's unenforceable. What's next--banishment for associating with non-Unity approved humans? Because honestly, that's exactly what this sounded like. And Mulgrew had better drop out of the MLC right now, because those folks aren't UFT, and are dictating policy to us.

It'll go DOWN next month. Voting to allow it be introduced for debate is very different from voting to adopt it as policy.

I hope so. It passed by a small margin tonight. Unity really wants this. I have no idea why. Pass or fail, it makes them look like the fanatical ideologues they are.

Another reason why it might actually be good if they bring it up. Gets their machinations out in the open.

Thank you Arthur for continuing the battle with passion and humor. It is good to see Mulgrew and gang beginning to panic and start trying to enforce censorship in a new way. Perhaps, if they try to enforce this resolution against union members it might even be considered an actionable unfair labor practice. In any case, every insurgency needs its Tom Paine, someone like you to inspire and comfort them.

I would love to know statistically who Unity targets for inclusion in their cult - by such factors as gender race educational levels teaching license religious and political affiliations etc I have my own ideas about this…. Probably wouldn’t be too popular if I advertised it….good thing I am no longer a target of Tweed/DOE as well as being an outlier to any cult or group….

Interesting question. I think they ask all chapter leaders. The only chapter leader I know who wasn't asked, I think, is me. Of course, by the time I was elected, I'd been writing pretty awful things about them for some time.
